On October 9, with the vote of the 5Stelle group, "Torino in Comune" and "Direzione Italia", was approved the transformation of the water company SMAT S.p.A. into a public company under public law. With this, the Italian city of Turin starts remunicipalising the water services.

After Napoli, Turin is the second largest city in Italy that remunicipalizes the water service. From now on, begins the schedule and the commitment that will integrate also the 40 municipalities of the metropolitan area of the city. This process should be completed by April 2018.

Faced with this approval, it will be difficult for other Italian prefects to say that they can not re-municipalize the water services of their cities. (information from Renato Di Nicola, from the European Water Movement, from the Foro Acqua Movimento Italiano and from the FAMA International Committee).

Turin is the fourth largest city in Italy, with a population of approximately 1 million, behind only Rome, MIlán and Naples.
